Dad's the focus this #tbt

“In order to carry a positive action, we must develop here a positive vision.”~Dalai Lama, Tibetan leader

I’m diggin’ the nostalgia found in #throwbackthursday hashtags on social media. I’ve posted the first Ku haiku I wrote, images from my CZT Zentangle workshop, photos from my undergraduate Penn State THON. How do I top that?

No “top,” perhaps, but what can I share and reflect on next? Today.

I’ve been heavily editing my Father’s Memoir these recent weeks, and had a chapter to submit to my writing group last night. I had pulled out my journal from that time to fact-check the chronology of events. It was sitting right here on the table. I flipped through it, thinking about this and Father’s Day coming up next week, and I found this entry, written in fun, color-full ink pens like I still use today:

“His stomach tube was draining but came out. All the stomach stuf that was draining out so it wouldn’t go thru his colon system was dripping onto floor. Dad’s very doze. K just came back. I wonder if this is the beginning of the end.”

That was written less than 24 hours before he died.

It’s also the perfect way to open the novel. Dad would have liked the irony: the end is the beginning.

An exclusive chapter from that book will be released next Sunday, free on Father’s Day. Stay tuned here for upcoming details.

Dad would have liked that, too. He would also have said it was too much fuss and just forget about it, but that was just Dad’s way to disguise his pleasure. Humble yet annoying Dad.
